VARION was a popular medication that could cure anything from Anxiety and Depression to Schizophrenia and Zoophagia. Everybody took it back in the day because there were no side effects... AT FIRST. By the time they learned about the Variant Effect it was too late.

The old building in a rundown part of Metro was a perfect place to find a body, but they wouldn't have dragged Joe Borland out of retirement if it still had its skin. It's been 20 years since Borland battled the Variant Effect, and 20 since he let his partner get skinned alive. Now both of them are ordered back into action to meet a terrifying new threat.

Three Downloads in ONE includes The Variant Effect (Novel), The Variant Effect Painkiller (Novella) and a Sneak Peek at The Variant Effect GreenMourning.

The best measure of a story's effectiveness is if it keeps you reading. This one wouldn't let go. I picked it up in the evening and didn't put it down til the roosters were crowing and I'd finished.

I loved it so much, I couldn't wait to pay a measly buck to get a new novella and a sneak peek at the next volume. When Green Mourning comes out I'll be holding on to this purchase, because the shorter volume that binds it to Variant Effect is essential reading. I only wish there were an interactive table of contents; if you've already read The Variant Effect, you must page carefully along looking for the beginning of the later material.

Two things stood out above everything else: G. Wells Taylor's brilliant imagery, with a co-protagonist who's been skinned alive and is a rolling horror show in a wheel chair, plus all the hardware and software and wetware you could ask for in big-budget Hollywood thriller. Second, Taylor has created the Philosopher's Stone of zombie writers: a completely original explanation for how people change from humans to mindless predators. The explanation is both understandable and intellectually stimulating, intricately thought out, and frightening as hell.

There are a few distractions, such as the author's repetitive use of the word "snarled." Unlike some reviewers who've commented on the oft-mentioned protagonist's hernias, I thought that touch was colorful and that it was mentioned about as often as you'd expect from a man in an extremely physical job.

The hernia-afflicted protagonist is not quite an anti-hero, because he IS a hero, though not an admirable one. He does what must be done, though to stay on his feet he drowns memories and fears in and, sometimes, street drugs. His personality is fascinating to the end, making the story a character tale on which hang many scenes of horror.

There are a few technical flaws, as mentioned, so if five stars were supposed to represent editorial perfection, I might knock one off. But since the criteria for five stars is simply "I love it!" I would be dishonest to say I merely liked Variant Effect.

Official Variant Effect Collector Pack The Variant Effect Book 3 eBook G Wells Taylor Reviews

I am a mystery-suspense-thriller junkie. This story is great. It is extremely well written, the charachters development is wonderful. I look forward to the next book in the series. Thank you Mr. Wells for a story I literally had to tear myself away from.
Great author I have read several of his books
Really engaging. I plowed through the published series in 3 days. Now I want more.
I didn't know what to make of this when I started reading it, but at the very least I knew it would be different. Ultimately, the series hooked me and I can't wait for the next edition.
Definitely worth the dollar, and then some! There's a reason why a "zombie apocalypse" could happen - and this explains why perfectly! The novel itself has you rooting and hating the 'hero' at the same time, the novella is a wonderful tie in, and the sneak peek of the sequel is quite the peek! Can't wait for it to come out!
